Why I'm running for office:
I am motivated to run for office because I am frustrated with how our representatives vote, fail to act to protect us, and are non-responsive to our interests.
I thought I could have influence on my representative as a Precinct Committeeman, State Committeeman, Third Vice Chair, and Sergeant at Arms for our Republican Legislative District, and recently I came to the realization I could not have an impact on my representative. I had many friends with the same frustration. Challenging our representative is the solution. That is why I am running for this seat, to represent US.
Meet Rob
I grew up in Norwalk, California, in a home built in 1879, by my great, great grandfather, John Paddison. My mother and father, Bob & Margaret Scantlebury, now retired, were small business owners, and successfully retained and preserved the original family homestead through its use as a wedding facility, still shoot photography, and motion picture location. (This was only possible through the passing of California’s Prop 13, an aggressive property tax protection initiative overwhelmingly supported by California voters in 1978, which protected elderly and retired homeowners from rapid property tax increases.) I grew up with one younger brother, Eddie, now a fireman for the City of Los Angeles. I graduated from Leffingwell Christian High School, Cypress Community College, and California State University, Fullerton, with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. I was recruited to work for the Mesa Police Department in 1992, and relocated to Mesa in the summer of that year.
I was sworn in as a Mesa Police Officer in September of 1992. During my career I served as a police officer, a special investigations detective, a patrol sergeant, and a detective sergeant. I retired from the department in January of 2018, after 25 years of service. I continued serving as a volunteer Reserve Police Officer until the department discontinued the program in 2020. I loved my job and have always felt I had a calling to protect and stand up for others, especially those unable to stand up for themselves.
Since being fully retired from the police department, I started and currently operate a small business, Little American Tractor Service. I have been married to my wife, Heather, for 22 years, and we have raised two daughters.
